Mehmet Onur Cevik is a PhD student at the research group for Media, Innovation and Communication Technologies (mict) at Ghent University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law (Ankara University, 2014) and a Master’s degree in Sociology (University of Essex, 2016).

His master’s dissertation questions where Turkish media can be located in the Western media context and analyses the Turkish media system and public service broadcasting within the context of comparative media studies.

In terms of professional experiences, Cevik achieved legal practicing certificate after completing one year legal traineeship at Ankara Bar Association, and worked as research assistant and assistant editor for two year in a think-tank based in Ankara. After his Master’s degree, he has joined imec-mict-UGent in July 2017. In his current research project, he investigates the transformation of Turkish media and public sphere in last decade.
