Sustainability Summer Schools
In the summer of 2022, Green Office Ghent organized three Sustainability Summer Schools for and by students: Climate, Degrowth and Animal Welfare. Keep an eye on this webpage for news for the 2023 edition!
What?
Through workshops, lectures, a field trip, and speed dates you will learn 5 days in a row about how to build an equitable society within planetary boundaries. In addition, you will meet interesting speakers and you become part of a motivated group of students.
You will not only learn about the challenges of the various disciplines. Under the guidance of experts, you will also immerse yourself in concrete problems, which you will tackle together with fellow students from different fields of study. The week will end with presentations from students.
Week schedule
Some introductory lectures will be held together with the Climate Summer School, and others will be more in depth on degrowth. Here you can find the week overview.
When?
The summer school takes place from 19 to 23 September, from 9 am – 6 pm with every day vegan lunch. On Wednesday evening there is an interesting evening activity with a keynote speaker at 8 pm.
For whom?
Motivated students from all fields of study from the Association Universiteit Gent (AUGent). A total of 70 students (approximately 35 students for the summer school degrowth) will be selected based on a motivation sheet. Are you not a student but still interested? Feel free to submit your motivation card, exceptions are possible. For this summer school it is a requirement to know basic English since all lectures, workshops, etc. will take place in that language.
Costs?
The summer school is free of charge for participants. All activities and meals are covered by UGent.
Why enrolling for this summer school?
The summer school offers an excellent opportunity to improve your knowledge of today's challenges and broaden your view of the topic degrowth. By actively working on problems with fellow students during the workshops, you experience the challenge of uniting different visions in the search for solutions for an economy that contributes to a socially justice society within the ecological boundaries of our planet. In addition, you will build a network of contacts with committed fellow students from different study fields, and you get the chance to network with experts within this field.
